Connectivity and the creative process “Where the goo ideas come from?”
There is a big problem occurring today regardless the way new products and solutions are coming to us today. From where new, innovative and successful product or service will come today and in the future.
People are totally hunger for new products, gadgets and movies. There is been notice a “new from the same”. A sensation of deja vu, when we are watching a brand new movie or software. TV Shows are the same case of “new from the same”, clothes, food and philosophy. Could be the society to become more and more boring during the time? How to solve this kind of problem? Where are the new ideas the people with shine into the eyes?
According with Steven Johnson – an American popular science author and media theorist – the innovative process comes from the connectivity, it aways happens and can be approved by analysing the age of enlightenment and modernism. That time was a fervour period, many innovations arise by the fact that people are reuned together in cafes and tea houses. That environment made a propitious scenario to many innovation comes at that time.
I totally agree with this point of view. I have seen in many cases during my all professional life. Actually a new innovation comes from two points – one idea is in one person brain and the complement is, many time, in someone else’s brain – this two points or even tree, four or five urges in a way people must be connected. Eve if many people think nowadays that there is a legion of introspective people in their computers, actually, people are becoming much more connected today than before.
As the same Steven says, “The innovation works in favor of connected brain”, the less you are not connected the less your innovative way to see and change the world. Other person that talk about it is Seam McCabe, a hand lettering and Type Design that says “You will never influences the world by trying to be like it” this two people have their influences on me and many other. My personality is a compillation of many experiences and my innovation degree is a factor of it’s interactions.
Another people that influences me is Bel Pesce, a Brazilian girl that has worked to many companies in the most influence technology campus in the world, the US market. She worked for Google, Microsoft, studied on MIT and she is only 23 years old. On 19 she leads important and specialized teams in the greatest US companies. Now she is a successful entrepreneur in silicon valley. What is her secret for been innovative during many years. I guess there are two points to consider. One is that she is always connected. The other is that, as she already said: “You uses the same effort to dream small and to dream big, show let’s choose a big dream”.
Concluding my essay to that, think in your company; it has spaces where people can freely talk about any subject? there is a propitious way to make then connected? If not, I guess your company is not a good place to work. If your company or job do not aim to connections and is much more worried about making documents (that makes people less connected) this company is, sorry, going down the way to non success in the future.
To make another argument to information technology you can see the new role in the software development. Here is the agile manifest, a thing I totally believe and try to put in action.
Manifesto for Agile Software Development
We are uncovering better ways of developing
software by doing it and helping others do it.
Through this work we have come to value:
Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
Working software over comprehensive documentation
Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
Responding to change over following a plan
That is, while there is value in the items on
the right, we value the items on the left more.
